Ambassador Néstor Osorio - Profile Picture

Mr Osorio became Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in February 2014.

Prior to his arrival in London, between November 2010 and January 2014, Ambassador Osorio was Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations in New York. In January 2013, he was elected President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), for a year-term. During his time in the United Nations, Ambassador Osorio represented Colombia in the Security Council, and held the Council's presidency in April 2011 and July 2012.

Mr Osorio served two terms as Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) in London starting 2002 and was re-elected in 2007. Prior to this, he was Special Advisor on Coffee and Trade Affairs to the Colombian Government.

He was the first Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) between 1994 and 1999. In this capacity, he served as Chairman of the Trade Policy Review Body, as well as of the International Textiles and Clothing Bureau and the Committee on Agriculture.

Between 1992 and 1994, Ambassador Osorio was based in Brussels as Europe's Director of the Colombian Coffee Federation. In addition, he represented Colombia to both the International Cocoa and Sugar Organisations.

Ambassador Osorio was first posted in London in 1978 as Deputy of the Permanent Delegation of Colombia to the International Coffee Organisation (ICO). Subsequently, from 1982 to 1994 he was head of this Delegation.

He is Doctor in Law from Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, and Doctor in Administrative Law from Université de Droit d'Économie et des Sciences Sociales de Paris, and holds an MSc from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.

Ambassador Osorio has been professor of Constitutional and Public Law, as well as Economics; he has published several articles on Public Law, International Trade and Commodities. He is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
