In the 2012 Happy Planet Index, Costa Rica is listed as the happiest country in the world, closely followed by Vietnam in second place and Colombia in third. Accordinly its citizens live the longest, happiest, most sustainable lives.
Compiled and released by the UK -based New Economics Foundation, The Happy Planet Index, ranks countries using global data on life expectancy, happiness and environmental sustainability based on the Gallup World Poll, and data for life expectancy taken from the 2011 United Nations Human Development Report.
