In a two-day visit to further strengthen and diversify bilateral relations with both nations, Vice President Garzón met high-level Government and Parliamentary officials as well as NGO, Trade Union and employers’ representatives as he promotes his candidacy to the position of Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

In London the Vice President met with Employment Minister Rt Hon Chris Grayling and Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt to discuss Colombia’s progress in the promotion and protection of human and labour rights, including the Government’s ambitious reform programme and the recently passed Victims’ and Land Restitution Law.

While in Dublin, Vice President Garzón and President Michael Higgins talked about the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union as well as bilateral relations with Ireland. Mr Garzon also met with Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and members of the Joint Dáil Committee for Foreign Affairs & Trade where he again described Colombia’s advance in a variety of policy areas.
